This project was conducted as part of the CIS 650 (Applying Diversity Leadership Theories and Praxis) class during summer 2023 that involved assessing the web information (and more) provided by the Kingsley Plantation property of the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve located in Jacksonville, Florida with a focus on African American populations. On this page, I analyze the diversity within Jacksonville. Jacksonville, Florida had a population of 971,319 in July of 2022. Of that population, the dominant ethnic group is White at 54.5%. Although that is the dominant ethnic group, Jacksonville is a diverse city with 30.7% African American, 10.9% Hispanic or Latino, and 4.9% Asian. Jacksonville is an ever-growing city and known for being the largest city by landmass in the United States. Jacksonville is a hub for industrial workers, the LGBTQIA+ community, and those running from the North during the winter season. However, there is a high unemployment rate (the employment number as of 2021 was 475,527) and a significant homeless/unhoused population.
