This project was conducted as part of the CIS 650 (Applying Diversity Leadership Theories and Praxis) class during summer 2023 that involved assessing the web information (and more) provided by the Kingsley Plantation property of the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve located in Jacksonville, Florida with a focus on African American populations. On this page, I reflect on what I've learned from this project and how I plan on using this research for my career. As I've worked on this website, I've become more aware of what my organization offers for it's employees and visitors. Prior to this class, I just went into work and focused on my tasks at hand. While working on this project, I reached out to my supervisor for guidance on what resources were available for Black employees and how the park interprets Black history. My supervisor sent me information relating to the Kingsley Plantation Interpretive plan, programs, and offices within NPS. For example, my supervisor signed me up to participate in a conference where students from Historically Black Colleges/Universities presented their projects done in partnership with the National Park Service. Also, I felt somewhat overwhelmed by the project at hand due to the limited time and starting a new career. However, I have learned a lot about the effects of having a diverse workforce, serving a diverse group, and more about my organization.
